In our family archive in Kalmar County Museum, work is currently underway to improve the storage of the objects there and at the same time inventory them. In connection with this, we will tell you about some of the objects. First up is the Estonian family branch, where we only have a few objects.
The photo shows a plate that belonged to the circumnavigator Adam Johann von Krusenstern (1770-1846), born and raised in Estonia. In Tallinn, a very ambitious exhibition is currently underway in the Maritime Museum about Adam Johann and his time. It deals with, among other things, the early development of navigation and cartography, his and other Estonians' contributions to the mapping of the Pacific Ocean, and the connection of the voyages of discovery to colonialism (see also the latest family letter).
Perhaps a trip to the beautiful city of Tallinn could be an option this fall? The exhibition runs until January 11th.
in 2026. Then you can take the opportunity to visit the Peppersack restaurant, which is located in the house that the family's ancestor Philip Crusius owned in the mid-17th century. Adam Johann and his wife are buried in Tallinn Cathedral.
